Industrial Refrigeration Technician

Position Overview

The Industrial Refrigeration Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial refrigeration systems to ensure the smooth operation of warehouse facilities. This role requires expertise in ammonia refrigeration systems, HVAC, and compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on ammonia refrigeration systems and related equipment.
• Inspect and troubleshoot refrigeration components, including compressors, condensers, and evaporators.
• Monitor system performance and adjust controls to maintain optimal temperature levels.
• Ensure compliance with all OSHA, EPA, and PSM (Process Safety Management) regulations.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and conduct corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and system performance logs.
• Assist in energy efficiency improvements and system upgrades.
• Conduct routine inspections of refrigeration systems and report potential issues.
• Adhere to company safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Work collaboratively with maintenance teams and operations staff to optimize system performance.

Qualifications & Skills

• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in refrigeration or HVAC preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial refrigeration maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems (R-717), HVAC, and mechanical systems.
• Understanding of PSM, OSHA, and EPA regulations related to refrigeration systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with PLC systems is a plus.
• Must be able to work in cold storage environments as needed.

Work Environment

• Work is performed in refrigerated warehouse environments with temperatures ranging from -20°F to 50°F.
• Requires physical activity, including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
• Exposure to ammonia and other industrial chemicals with proper safety procedures in place.
